Mountains revisited: theory in field practice

Šumava in gallery

On our brief gallery visit, there were many interesting art pieces that have caught my eye but I have to say that what I thought about the most after leaving were probably the creations of Josef Váchal.

His Šumava umírající a romantická (Šumava dying and romantic) is a book consisting of many diverse pieces differencing in art styles and forms used. I love Šumava and all art portraiting it has my attention but I especially appreciated the way Váchal did it as it seems I’m really in Šumava while looking at his work.

The beautiful melancholic Šumava that calms something inside me. I simply had to look up the entire book afterward and I have to say I was not disappointed. I truly admire how the author created the entire book himself by connecting all different forms of art.

  1. Good! Váchal is certainly worth looking into as a person as well. I highly reccommend visiting his Portmoneum project as well as reading some of his written works. He has a great eye for anything mythical.
