Mountains revisited: theory in field practice

The Gallery Visit (Red Dead Journey, PART IV)

Hi there! Once again, welcome to my video game-themed blog. In this post, I’m going to talk about today’s gallery visit.

The work I was most interested in I found at the beginning of the visit. It was entitled “Borderland” and was authored by Adam Kašpar. I was intrigued by the landscape captured in the painting, as I immediately found a connection to my topic. The painting was somehow antonymous for me. Beautiful, colorful nature, but with a dark and mysterious feel.

The same can be found in the video game in which I do my research. Nature is also very beautiful and vibrant here, but as soon as you enter a certain location or wander in these locations at night, all that beauty disappears and there is dread, a fear, a sense of being watched.

This is what inspired me to encapsulate soundscape in this way to my topic. What sounds and music in one and the same location you can hear during the day and during the night and how the whole atmosphere can turn because of it.

To support my thoughts I’m adding some pictures again.

Tall Trees location during the day…
…and during the night.
