Mountains revisited: theory in field practice

Trapped Forest Nymphs – reflection

missing piece

what if they took it away from us too

tied it up

locked it

and drowned it

what if they made us believe

we don’t need it

we are yet complete

.

what if some forgot

got detached

from their very own souls

what if they cannot recall

how it felt

to be whole

.

what if some awoke

realized

their spirits lack a piece

“what if we still hunger

yearn, desire

to retrieve this caprice”

.

what if there is a leak

that can be partly filled

while conquering the peaks

what if those

who voyage into the woods

are not cursed

.

what if they draw near

catch a glimpse of

what used to be real

what if they’re destined

to always seek for that piece

without succeed

.

what if they are reconciled
to remain forever lost
and never to be found

This is my reflection on the painting Trapped Forest Nymphs/Lapené vodní žínky by Jaroslav Špillar. This painting got me thinking about these parts of us that we lost during the rise of modern technology. Can it still be found? Are those who are escaping this comfortable lifestyle and coming back to the Mother Earth completing at least for a fleeting moment their own souls?

If I try to make a connection with my research topic – can Social Media help us with this desire of reconnection with our origin? If yes, how so? To which extend?

  1. Thanks for the powerful piece of poetry.

As for my reading, you have managed to capture quite precisely some ideas that I’ve been struggling to put into words lately.

Maybe it could be worth it writing a short poetry collection as an accompanying project?

A keyword idea for your further research: disenchantment and re-enchantment (in the context of social netweorks vs. the real space?)
